Papua New Guinea

Sepik River Region

We are working together alongside local guide and tourism coordinator, Jeicob Marek to assist in Eco-tourism opportunity’s in the Sepik River Region. Specifically in the small town of Ambunti, only reachable by watercraft.

Activities would include, learning about sustainable and self-sufficient living, natural medicines, community living and learning about the jungle life. Other sights and multi day river tours in the area can also be arranged through Jeicob

We are able to assist anyone who is wishing to go. Everything is able to be organized by request and costs negotiated with Jeicob.

Our services here are free of charge and also we are receiving zero commissions for anything related, this page is purely here to help promote Eco-tourism in Papua New Guinea and help contribute to a more sustainable planet.

Projects

How to get there?

Ambunti is accessible by boat from the town of Pagwi, or by charter flight from Wewak.

Wewak to Pagwi is possible by private vehicle or PMV (Public Motor Vehicle). The PMV could take up to 12 hours, with a private vehicle being much quicker.

Fly to Wewak from Port Moresby, Madang or Vanimo. It is possible to travel by PMV and boat from Madang to Wewak, also their is a PMV that runs between Vanimo and Wewak, this is weather dependent.

You could enter Papua New Guinea from Indonesia via the overland border checkpoint near Vanimo. This would be the cheapest way to arrive in Papua New Guinea and onwards, especially for visiting the Sepik River Region.

Become a Volunteer

We have a growing team of volunteers with a range of different skills. Here are the key leaders for our initial projects

Green Canopy is a collective to assist and lead social and infrastructure projects, we advocate for sustainable social development while managing the project and coinciding infrastructure. Our primary focus lays with SOFETI in Ambunti, Papua New Guinea with the plan to expand to more locations in Papua New Guinea and the greater Melanesian area.
